    1. How long does cannabis stay in your system? The length of time cannabis remains in your system depends on how much you smoke or ingest, as well as how often, also some underlying medical conditions may have an impact. In general, higher doses and more frequent use are associated with longer detection times. Here are some general guidelines: a. Occasional users (up to three times a week): 3 days b. Moderate users (four times a week): 5 to 7 days c. Chronic users (daily): 10 to 15 days d. Chronic heavy users (multiple times a day): more than 30 days 2. Are patients allowed to carry recreational cannabis on our grounds? No. St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is a recreational cannabis free facility. We ask that patients, family members, staff, physicians, learners, volunteers and visitors do not carry cannabis while they are in or on the grounds of any St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton site or program. 3. What do I say to patients if they ask if they can use recreational cannabis? That although we recognize that as of October 17th, 2018 recreational cannabis will be legal, cannabis can impact the treatment we provide. We encourage patients to speak to their treatment teams about their cannabis use and any concerns they have about not being able to continue their use. 4. Who can patients or staff contact if they have any questions about using cannabis? We encourage patients to speak directly with their treatment team. Staff can utilize the message board for any questions and are also encouraged to speak with their managers. 5. If I have a prescription for medical cannabis (staff/patient), what process do I follow ? We have been revising our medical cannabis policy. Please speak to your treatment team prior to any procedures and let them know you have a script for marijuana.
